Winnipeg Intergroup Association and Manitoba Central Office

What is an Intergroup Association?

“An AA service office involves partnership among Groups in a community—just as AA Groups themselves are partnerships of individuals. An Intergroup office exists to carry out certain functions common to all Groups—functions which are best handled by a centralized office—and it is usually maintained, supervised, and supported by these groups in their general interest. It exists to aid Groups in their common purpose of carrying the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers.”

History of Winnipeg Intergroup Association

The Winnipeg Intergroup Association (WIA) was formed in the late 1940s to serve the needs of local AA groups and to support their shared mission. In its early years, WIA organized an annual dinner for early AA members and provided coordination among groups in the Winnipeg area.

We believe the Winnipeg Intergroup Association is the oldest AA service structure in Western Canada. As AA has grown throughout the metropolitan area, the need for services has expanded, and the responsibilities of the WIA have grown accordingly.

Please remember that the Winnipeg Intergroup / Central Office is your office. It is the place where Intergroup Representatives (IG Reps) share information about service opportunities and help members become involved in carrying the AA message. WIA meetings are open for all members to attend as observers.
