Remote Communities

The Remotes Committee is part of the Area 80 Manitoba A.A. service structure, dedicated to helping others achieve sobriety.

What can we do to help you battle addiction in your community?

  1. We can help you get your community connected with our fellowship of sober alcoholics.
  2. We can connect your community to our Tuesday night TeleHealth meetings. 6:15 – 7:30 pm weekly
  3. We can help you establish meetings in your community. (If needed we can supply some basic literature to help get things started and some training on running meetings.)
  4. We can guide you through our https://aamanitoba.org/ website
  5. We can visit your community, with your invitation, to explain what AA is and what we do, by doing presentations in the community. We will gladly attend your meetings and share our stories.
  6. We can help clients who are transitioning out of treatment centers connect with other sober alcoholics through the Bridging the Gap program. https://aamanitoba.org/bridging-the-gap
  7. We may be able to deliver your literature order from our Manitoba Central Office. 1856 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. R3J 0G9 204-942-1026 aambco@aamanitoba.org  to save you postal fees.

What can we do to help you? Please email remoteschair@aamanitoba.org with your questions, suggestions or concerns. Please invite us to your community. We want to help.
Sincerely yours in service,

Ron P.  Chair

Meetings:

Area 80 Remotes Committee

Our Remotes Committee was established in 2009. Our primary purpose is to “carry the message” to remote and rural communities.

In 2024-2025, we will work together to:

#1: Increase participation in our weekly Remotes AA meeting on Telehealth on Tuesdays.

Some of the communities that have joined us from their Telehealth site.

Erickson, Swan River, Tamarack, Snow Lake, Wabowden, Lynn Lake, Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (Nelson House), Lake Manitoba First Nation, Pimicikamak Cree Nation (Cross Lake), Berens River First Nation, Peguis First Nation, York Factory First Nation (York Landing)

#2: Provide supports to communities, as requested.

For example, we will provide information such as:

  • how to access literature
  • how to join our Remotes AA meeting on Telehealth or other AA meetings on Zoom
  • how to set up an AA meeting in a remote community

#3: Travel to as many rural/remote communities as possible each year for community outreach.

Our Committee meets the second Monday of every month at 6:30pm (hybrid format) to discuss our work and next steps. We would love to have you join us.

If you have any questions or would like to join our e-mail list, email us at remoteschair@aamanitoba.org
